Tips for cold weather flying
Freezing temperatures bring new challenges to general aviation pilots. Luckily, there’s an abundance of experts offering tips on cold weather flying. We’ve compiled a few of our favorites from Sporty’s, BoldMethod, Gleim Aviation, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the FAA.
Dynon halts production on experimental displays
Supply chain issues have halted production on Dynon’s avionics for experimental aircraft, including SkyView HDX, SkyView Classic, and SkyView SE.
Aircraft Color Visualizer Tool introduced
The interactive desktop site allows users to choose from six aircraft models — ranging from a kit aircraft to a heavy jet — to customize with any color in the Sherwin-Williams aircraft color library and instantly view on the screen. The pre-designed schemes can integrate one base color and up to three accents, in both solids and metallics.

Back to the Backcountry
Now available to view for free is a recording of an Air Safety Institute webinar that looks at accidents in the backcountry, with an eye towards preventing these accidents in the future. Not a backcountry pilot? You can still learn something, says Bill McGlynn, president of the Recreational Aviation Foundation, who was one of the panelists on the webinar, along with Mike Patey, and the presidents of the Utah Back Country Pilots Association and the Montana Pilots Association.
New Aircraft Mechanic Training Center in the works at Dayton airport
The new training center, which will be housed in a renovated hangar at Dayton International Airport, is expected to open in early 2023.
