Companies partner up to electrify aviation infrastructure
“Our partnership with VI&E Solutions is a groundbreaking initiative to develop an airport charging network throughout the region,” said Josh Turner, CEO of PowerUp America. “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our mission to revolutionize the transportation landscape by integrating sustainable energy solutions with our nation’s aviation infrastructure.”
Researchers compare climate impact of electric aircraft vs those powered by fossil fuels
The key takeaway from the study is that small electric aircraft can have a notably lower climate impact — up to 60% less — and other types of environmental impacts than equivalent fossil-fueled aircraft. However, there is a trade-off regarding mineral resource scarcity — about 50% more even in the most favorable scenario, mainly due to rare metals in the batteries of the electric aircraft, according to researchers.
Charging station for electric aircraft added to four FBOs
Atlantic Aviation and BETA Technologies have already installed one charger at Elmira Regional Airport (KELM) in New York and have signed agreements for three additional locations, including Birmingham International Airport (KBHM) in Alabama, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (KJAN) in Jackson, Mississippi, and Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport (KBAF) in Westfield/Springfield, Massachusetts.
First flight for hybrid-electric EcoPulse
During the flight, the crew engaged the electric propellers and verified the proper functioning of the demonstrator’s flight control computer, high-voltage battery pack, distributed electric propulsion and hybrid electric turbogenerator, according to Daher officials.
Mobile charger for electric aircraft debuts
The charger is part of VoltAero’s strategy to create an infrastructure for its Cassio airplane family, which begins with the five-seat Cassio 330. The charger also will be offered for other electric aircraft, according to officials with VoltAero.
Patent granted for hybrid power system for electric flight
“The patent describes an innovative system engineered to deliver power-dense, efficient, and reliable power for electric aircraft, supporting onboard applications as well as driving rotors and propellers for lift and thrust,” company officials explain.
Society of Experimental Test Pilots honor pilot of all-electric aircraft
Steve Crane, the test pilot for Eviation Aircraft, a manufacturer of all-electric aircraft, won the 2023 Iven C. Kincheloe Award for Alice’s first flight.
