The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed while maneuvering, which resulted in an exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack and an aerodynamic stall.
Picture of the Day: Evening landing at KUES
Don Muehlbauer submitted this photo and note: “After a long summer of hazy weather, Aug. 31 2023, brought a beautiful clear evening. Note the sheen on the cowling of the RV-12 and the Approach lights on Runway 10 at Waukesha County Airport (KUES) in Wisconsin. I am a CFI, so a student, just about ready to solo, was flying the plane.”
Touching base with the brain trust
The very first NAFI Summit was a gathering of flight instructors, flight school owners, writers, content producers, and managers who all have at least one thing in common — a desire to improve the state of flight instruction for the throngs of students who are flocking to airports across the land.

Patent granted for hybrid power system for electric flight
“The patent describes an innovative system engineered to deliver power-dense, efficient, and reliable power for electric aircraft, supporting onboard applications as well as driving rotors and propellers for lift and thrust,” company officials explain.
Mental Math for Pilots updated
The book shares the “tricks of the trade” for the areas where pilots have traditionally needed to sharpen their mental math skills, such as fuel planning, temperature conversions, reciprocal headings, turn radius, crosswind components, time-speed-distance problems, calculating true airspeed, the 60-to-1 rule, and many others, company officials said.
When the wrong frequency isn’t wrong
If this is a commonly used frequency, why in the world isn’t it listed anywhere?
Picture of the Day: Halloween Cub
Rob Stapleton submitted this photo and note: “A newly rebuilt Super Cub by Alaska’s Acme Cub takes off from the Lake Hood gravel strip in Anchorage, during the autumn Birch foliage. The Super Cub is sporting flames from the engine cowling and dayglow green powder coated fuselage tubing, trim including VGs and jury struts with all the modifications needed for off-airport operations. The Cub is flown by student pilot Emilie Williams and her CFI behind a Lycoming O-360 180-hp engine. The Cub has earned a local name as the Gangster Cub.”
